West Earl Township Police were dispatched for an alarm at the Dutch Lane Bowling Alley, located at 4311 Oregon Pike on Nov. 1 at 3:12 a.m., according to the police release.
The 911 dispatchers had been notified of the alert by the alarm company, police said in the release.
Upon arrival police saw a Suzuki SUV parked to the rear of the bowling alley, according to the release.
Windows and tools were used to gain entry into the building, and an ATM machine was found strapped to a dolly— leading Officers to believe the suspect was attempting to steal the ATM machine, according to the release.
"As Officers approached the vehicle, a male suspect ran from the building to the vehicle and fled the scene," police said.
The officers chased him, but lost the suspect’s vehicle while trying to get back to their own vehicles, the release states.
Officer Blessing was able to obtain a registration for the vehicle before it left the property and later located the SUV "suspicious(ly) left at a property" located at 100 block of East Farmersville Road the following morning at 9:20 a.m., according to the release.
Petro J. Delmonico, 51, of Reading, was found to be the driver of the vehicle, according to police.
Reading City police found Delmonico at his residence, took him into custody and contacted WEPD, as stated in the release.
Delmonico was picked up by WEPD and transported to Magisterial District Justice Judge Jonathan Heisse's office for arraignment, police say.
Delmonico was briefly remanded to the Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail, but was later released on a surety bond, according to his court docket.
Delmonico was charged with the following according to his court docket:
- F2 Burglary
- F2 Criminal Trespass
- F3 Theft by Unlawful Taking
- F3 Fleeing or Attempting to Elude PD
- M1 Possession of Instruments of a Crime
His preliminary hearing has been scheduled with Magisterial District Judge Jonathan W. Heisse on Nov. 8 at 9 a.m., according to his court docket.
